Cats And Dogs

Jennifer finally made up her mind. "I wanna meet Con." was the sole thought that occupied her mind for days, and now, the perfect opportunity arose. "Markus? There's a nice food stand over there. Can I have some?" - pulling on my shirt, she gesticulated at the instant noodles stand located at other side of the street. I acknowledged the obvious request and turned towards it, not noticing her gaining more and more space between the two of us, and then, slowly, vanishing. She ran as fast as she could, knowing that she wouldn't have much time before I noticed she's gone, made her way into the airport we were standing in front just a minute ago and rushed on board of the closest plane she could find. Sneaking past the stewardess during the ticket control, she managed to get on board and headed straight for the cockpit. Giving out a loud "meow?" in front of the cockpit's sealed door, she caused the co-pilot to open it, checking "which s...

An evening to tell the tale

A truly wonderful evening. Tonight, Jennifer, Conor, Markus and myself, Joan, chose to set ourselves on a sort of adventure: a new kind of pen'n'paper RPG. The system resembles other popular frameworks a lot: dice everywhere, of all sorts, with different shapes and sizes, some of them even with text. Tonight, it was I who chose to prepare something of my own. Here, no premade character, nor any kind of equipment that was blatantly ripped off of some generic source or random generator. Each player chooses 3 sets of equipment, any kind thereof. Balance is all done beforehand, so that stats and newly found ideas can still be tried out throughout the game. And what's more: here, the equipment makes the playstyle. First in-game day, Conor went for something pretty classic, and efficient: a melee fighter, some sort of barbarian if you will (especially given he rolled a 2 on his non-scaling attribute, intelligence), roaming around in shining armor, God knows how he kept it so,...

Happy hunting

"Steady." I thought, laying down in the wooded brush, rifle ready and taking careful aim at my target, the Autumn breeze throwing leaves around lightly. In my scope i could see him, a beautiful stag, strong and proud with great horns and fat, muscular body. "He'll be a fine meal for everyone." My hands steadying my rifle again getting ready to take the shot, the stag blissfully unaware of what was about to take place, my breathing slowed, heart rate down and my eye keen, i breathe in slowly, count to four, hold in my breathe, reticle over the stags heart and just before i exhale i squeeze the trigger and the bang lets the bullet fly straight and true, i exhale as the bullet reached it target. "Dammit, i missed!" I shout out in anger. The stag running off faster than what i could reload my rifle, but i see a dark clump where the stag once stood huddled in a heap on the floor. Confused, i slowly and cautiously make my way over the huddled heap, strap...

An open Field

I open my eyes slowly, staring up at the clear blue sky as a warm and refreshing summer breeze blows through the long grass, and i slowly prop myself up on one arm. I can't help but feel somethings a little off as there is nothing but open field as far as the eye can see, no forests, no trees, no animals. Me, myself and i now standing alone in an open field. Nothing to do, nowhere to go, no-one to see. I scan slowly and lazily around me, finally spotting a single lonely tree, standing on a small hill. Approaching it, i find myself feeling fuzzy and warm, almost intoxicated as i notice two people, laying beneath it's long branches and dark green leaves. I come closer to it, the two noticing me and giving me a nice wave beckoning me over. I smile and begin to greet them as i step into the trees shadow, and they vanish into the thickest blackness i could have conceived. I stop dead in my stride, my heart jumping into my throat and starting to race, my breathing becoming heavy...

An unexpected visit

"I'm hungry.", Jennifer brought to my attention, with the usual globes she tends to have in her eye holes in these moments. Supported by a loud growl coming from her belly, she pushed me out of bed, as magically, the doorbell rang. Putting on a pair of trousers, I made my way to the door. "Hey, I got you some noodles from the Chinese next door. May I come in?", Benedikt asked, yet forced his way into the 50 m² apartment anyway. "Did she put you up to this?" - A wide grin on his face was all I would get for a response. Jennifer, having eagerly awaited his arrival, already snatched the bag holding what promised to be the food rations for the day. As I approached to take my share, she turned around, hissing, then petting the bag repeatedly saying ""My nooooodleeesssssssss..." to herself, in the creepiest voice she could possibly talk in and in an obvious reference. "So you prefer your new treasure over me? Then I guess you're f...

Tough wake-up call

7 AM. Feels like a surprisingly short amount of time since I fell asleep, yet the clock on my phone doesn't lie. Checking the last activity logged on it revealed that I'd been up far into the night, up until close to 3 in the morning. "Great. Superb time to wake up after such a short night",  I told myself ironically, sighing in fatigue. "I guess I gotta get up and ready now." A few minutes later, I'm ready to go. On the way to work, I realize I forgot to bring a fork to eat my midday lunch. Hoping the personnel at thecantina won't be a pain in the arse agaim about it, I make my way to my desk. On the program, 3D design for a print I needed to get ready ASAP for a project. Checking my mailbox, nothing today. At least that's that. Then, to the locker, to get my security shoes, whatever point it is they serve in an electronics lab. I would guess not much, but it's mandatory, so what the hell. I guess today will be another one of those where...

A German out-of-schedule

It's Jo's turn to write his post today but yeah, even Germans can go against schedule once in a while. It's hard to believe, I know, but sometimes it just overcomes oneself. So bear with me^^ I'm still in the midst of translating the short stories - in case you want to give it a hand, feel free to write a mail to me^^ Anyway, taking a break from continuous translation (the next five stories are covered and the posts being scheduled basically as I am writing this one). I'd love to get some feedback regarding them - honestly, you don't need to hold back, if you think they're just a bunch of crap, feel free to say so. No guarantees on stopping to post them though... 😜

Yet another sleepless night

"Markus, can we watch a movie tonight?" Jennifer's eyes, big as bowling balls, looked upon me whilst she's getting into begging position. "Again? Do you at least know what you want to watch?", I asked in disbelief. "Does it matter?", she countered, for even you, dear reader, should know that that's not even close to what she's actually after. So we made our way into the living room, got a bowl of crisps between us and look upon each other, waiting for the demand to come. As unbelievable as it may be, the "cuddle me" took hours to finally come over her lips, at the third movie and fifth bag of crisps. Acknowledging the end of bagged potato slices, we looked down at the remains, neither of us reaching out to what seemed to be the last handful of crisps of the evening - which became 9 o clock in the morning. "I'm tired.", she finally admitted before curling up and somehow pushing herself further against me - ...

Post Humans

"This freaking wreckage froze again!". Following her scream, Jennifer raised her paw to the heavens, ready to drive it down onto the monitor. In the last moments to the punch, I managed to grab it and hold it back, seeing the three hundred dollars monitor in danger. The dark-brown-haired kitten didn't fight my grip though - she seemed to enjoy the attention, rather, and relentlessly hissed at the monitor, still showing "Installing Updates. Do not turn off your pc." with a looping circle of dots. "Why does this keep happening?", she asked in a mix of hope and despair. "Why do you keep sneaking into my bed and cuddle up at night?", I asked in return. "Well, because it's in my nature. And because feeling your hand on me is so darn comfortable." "Exactly. And just as this behavior lies in your nature, it lies in Windows' nature to freeze and break during updates." "Why don't we just use Linux, then?",...

Starting the blog

Quite a few people asked me why I wouldn't start a personal blog - well, here it goes, I guess. I'll mostly go for more-or-less daily summaries or similar things, but you can look forward to a crazy story or two as well. My cuddly kitten mentioned that I should start of by just translating a few of the stories I wrote already and to be honest, I see no reason not to - so yeah, at the risk of repeating myself: Here it goes, I guess^^
